Symbolic Rings

It might be because the endless circle in a ring has been taken to represent endless love, but somehow with the evolution of jewelry it appears that there are symbolic rings for every stage of relationships and this is not something everyone knows. Avoid appearing like an uncaring partner by learning the various ring types and surprising your loved one with them on the appropriate occasion.

The promise ring

This is given at a stage of a relationship where the couple is not serious enough (or old enough!) to actually get engaged but they want to signify a level of seriousness in the relationship. It is also common where one of the partners has to go away for some time and it is given as a promise that they will be faithful and they will come back because they are serious in their relationship. Most of the promise rings are simple rings made of white gold or silver and not too much importance is given to the gem, if any.

The engagement ring

This is given when the couple is ready to move into the next, more serious phase of a relationship. It is typically given by the man though there are more and more girls popping the big question and is used to signify an intention to marry. More importance is attached to this ring and it is not uncommon to find lots of money being spent on it to get it right. The girl wears the ring on the fourth finger of her left hand and removes it if they break up or when they get married though many people still wear their engagement ring into their marriage.

The Wedding band

This is perhaps the mother of all rings because if all goes as it should, it should be worn for a lifetime. Wedding bands are worn by both the man and woman and are exchanged during a wedding ceremony. Most of them are made of pure gold and have an inscription inside reading whatever the couple wants it to read.

The destiny ring

Symbolic Rings

This is usually given many years into the marriage at an anniversary or something to signify the unending love between the couple. Many times it is given by a man to his wife. It is usually a made up of precious metal and studded with gemstones all round.
